Bmw x5 2004 door handle carrier...?


I am trying to put back my 2004 x5 bmw door panel and handle after replacing the handle carrier. Is there a science to getting the handle back on to where the handle is flush to the door seal? Should the carrier be pushed from the interior while adjusting the bolts and latch to get the handle on? Any photo's or step by step would be great....

I haven't tried doing it on a bmw x5 but the steps that I know could at least give you an idea.

Tools needed:

3/8 in. Drive Ratchet
Socket and Ratchet Set
Trim Panel Removal Tool
Pliers
Screwdriver

How to:

1. Remove the interior door handle, window handle(if applicable) and switches. (make sure that the window is fully up)

2. Remove the door panel (use a panel removal tool)

3. Remove the vapor barrier.

4. Remove the door handle mounting bolts and disconnect the actuator rod. Remove the exterior door handle.

5. Install the new door handle. Attach the actuator rod and tighten the mounting bolts.

6. Re-install the vapor barrier.

7. Re-install the door trim panel, interior handles, and switches.
