english antique furniture

A mid 18th century, Roman antiquities became popular through home decor. Pots, bronzes and statues recovered from archaeological sites were requested items. For the nobility to accommodate these (it was only the gentry who could afford), their homes and gardens, or required to undergo remodeling complete. As a result, your old furniture and decorative items were stored in outbuildings, attics and relegated to use by staff members. It is these issues which are now so eagerly sought.

In the first part of the 19th century, people do not collect things just because they were old. They may have collections of books, manuscripts, coins or maybe the maps, but storage cabinets, sitting or sleeping in and the paintings were usually family portraits. Other items such as porcelain and glass also were purely functional. However, that same century, the reign of Queen Victoria in full swing, his subjects became interested in the origins of their possessions and was the beginning of what we now know as the antiques industry.

The definition of "old" originated in the 1930s when American customs officials needed a criterion to judge whether duty was chargeable on the works of art. Since the mass production of items that had started a hundred years ago, an antiquity was considered something more than a hundred years old. Today, however, the BBC's Antiques Roadshow, a former defined as "an object most valuable for its aesthetic or historical significance "in other words, a collectible.

Obviously, there are those who deal in antiquities to live, but even they can live a lifetime in the field and never come across that elusive piece to buy a song and sold for a fortune. Some, of course, they have what they call in the trade of an "eye" that have a natural ability to detect the "real thing" in the middle of a room full of trash, but they are few and far between. For an amateur, the possibility of getting rich is even lower, so the best course of action is to collect whatever you want. If one likes a part, is happy to see it daily, and has paid a sum for what you can afford, then it really does not matter if they bring an unimaginable price.

In most cases, an embellishment of age will increase in value. However, interested fans can disrupt the market, as they did in the 1980s, when Clarice Cliff pottery and lesser-known Impressionist paintings were in vogue. The market was flooded with real and not so genuine and finally, the outbreak of the bubble. He recovered in time, of course, but many people looking for items with not enough knowledge may cause an interruption in the natural flow buying and selling.

If you focus on one type of item, paintings, ceramics, furniture, etc., then an amateur is more likely to accumulate knowledge necessary to avoid being fleeced by unscrupulous traders. The experience and knowledge can be gained by studying books and articles themselves or better still walk with an expert. Even then, the diversity of styles and periods to take a lot of learning and the need, the information overlap. For example, in order Furniture fully understand and recognize Georgia's English may be necessary to study Louis XIV and XV furniture, for purposes of comparison. There's nothing like experience, so the more time rummaging through antique shops and talking with the owners, the better.

Help! ... I need a name for an antique New!?

A friend is starting a new antique business and we have to think of a name! To put the business in context, consider the following: - The business of antiques will sell high-end fine English and Continental furniture targeting the 28 rich - 45 years. The proposed business is the sale of antique furniture for modern living well (it ie moving from the loaded image of antiques) - To distinguish the activity of other antique shops, the name must not include the word "antiques". Instead, we suggest the name is followed in smaller characters of "English and Continental Furniture. - The company will be headquartered in Kent, but also have a satellite store in London and the West. It will also have Internet sales. Out of the box!

Description

This charming little bedside chest was recently crafted in England as a Georgian period reproduction. From the materials to the production process itself, everything about this chest speaks of the highest quality in furniture craftsmanship. The gorgeous flame mahogany, for instance, underwent a careful finishing process designed to flesh out the natural beauty of the wood while also providing adequate protection against surface abrasion. The result is a selection of mahogany that displays a deep, lustrous complexion and a highly pronounced grain whose subtle variations in pattern and color attest to the remarkable quality of the wood. Satinwood swag inlays on the drawer fronts combine with brass pulls to produce a lovely contrast with the mahogany, while a lighter band of mahogany on the top gives the piece definition and style. The shaped bracket feet are as sturdy as they are elegant, and each drawer features dovetailed joints. Because this antique style chest is brand new, it is in excellent condition and would make a fine addition to any furniture collection.Dimensions: 23" wide x 16.5" deep x 26.25" high

Description

This antique style mahogany cabinet was recently hand-crafted by a third-generation cabinetmaker in England. The mahogany was treated to an elaborate finishing process that ended in a fine, hand-rubbed wax coating. The result is a beautifully polished cabinet that displays a deep, lustrous complexion and a highly pronounced grain. The satinwood inlays and brass hardware also contrast beautifully with the mahogany, while an exquisite crown with teardrop moulding adorns the piece. Much of the piece was made with old and re-claimed timber, including the drawers, which have new fronts and hardware but older frames. Each of the drawers features hand-cut dovetails, and the cabinet rests on sturdy shaped bracket feet. Because this cabinet is brand new, condition is excellent, so this piece would make a great addition to any setting.Dimensions: 30.5" wide x 22" deep x 83" high
