repainted cabinet hardware ... primer, paint, clear coat?

I am repainting the hardware for our kitchen cabinets. They were gold / bronze metal finish and now painted black (wrought iron look) I prepared at times 2 layers and painted for 2 layers. Now I wonder if I have to put a clear coat over them. Is it necessary? Home Depot, but never mentioned that my brother suggested it. ??? Thank you!

you do not put clear coat over the paint ... if you shine it should have used a high-gloss paint
