Great Gate-Exactly What We Needed!

Our family is really getting our money's worth from this gate! Our house is situated so we can get a great breeze with the front door and sliding glass patio door open, but the flimsy sliding screen and 3 steps down to the patio were a little dangerous for our 17 month old. I was disappointed to think of a summer with the patio door kept closed, until I found this gate as an option. The gate is easy to install and remove-we didn't have any problem with scratching as other reviewers mentioned. It is sturdy, and our son is unable to open it. Does take 2 adult hands to push the pin, and lift the handle to open the gate, so hard to do if you're holding a child. Great purchase all around!

A standard no-frills gate

Does what its supposed to. Sturdy construction. Not too easy for a child to open which is what I was looking for. NEGATIVES - The gate has to be removed in order to close the sliding door. The clamps which attach to the sliding door have scratched the paint off my sliding doors - some simple rubber guards incorporated into the design of the clamp could have prevented this. Also, I live outside the US and it didnt really fit snugly onto my sliding door so sizing outside of the US may be an issue.

Child-proofing made easy....

I purchased these for the sole purpose of keeping my toddler from opening our sliding closet doors. Our doors are made of solid wood (1950's home), and these adhered to them just fine, with proper surface prep. They've been on now for 3 months, and even with the beating they take from my toddler trying to open the doors, they are still sticking.I followed the instructions and wiped the area clean with rubbing alcohol, twice, just to be sure. Due to their location near the edge of the door, I was able to apply a clamp immediately after pressing them into place, and left the clamp on for 24 hours. They work wonderfully for this purpose and are hardly noticeable due to their transparency. Definitely worth buying if you want to use them for this purpose.

Just what I needed

I bought the burglabar for our sliding glass patio door to keep my 2 1/2 yr old daughter from escaping. Previously, I considered installing a latch lock but wasn't comfortable w/ drilling on the patio door frame. The installation was a breeze. Just stick it on & it's done. It's been installed now for just about a month & works great. Once I received the item, I did notice the instructions show to install two for a sliding door; one 12 inches from the bottom & one 12 inches from the top of the door. However, I installed just one but more like 18 inches from the top & it's working fine. It can also be used on sliding windows as shown in the instructions. I will DEF being purchasing more for when we move to a new house.

great product

The product itself is great. I did not like the fact I ordered 2 different products this transaction, but they were split and I had to pay 2 shipping fees. I also think the advertisement for the burglabar should emphasize that the price is per item. It was probably there but not emphasized. I could have purchased these two burglabars at the local hardware store for much less.

Not Very Strong

After testing these out in my home I've found that the bond just isn't as strong as I had hoped it would be. On my first test site I allowed the bond to sit for a week. I then went outside and I was able to snap the Burglabar off the window with a reasonable amount of effort.These might be good to keep a baby or pet inside, but they're not going to keep a burglar outside for more than a few seconds.

Falls off the Windows

Useless

Due to its thickness, the sliding door jams when closing it. Then both hands are required, one to slide the door and the other to push the Burglabar away from the edge of the door.

This is good product, at least in its concept and a good solution for improving patio door security. It would be a great product if the adhesive were better. In spite of scrupulously following the instructions for cleaning the glass prior to application, one of the bars fell off a week after being installed ( the other five are so far OK ). I'm sure I will be able to find a suitable adhesive to be able to re-apply it but the contact adhesive applied to the units as supplied leaves a lot to be desired.

We have a 3 year old at home so these definitely serve to keep him safe. As for security, they seem strong enough to deter someone who sees a sash window as an easy opportunity, especially when coupled with an alarm system.
