Simply put, a door kick plate is so that you can kick open a door without fear of causing any damage to the door. It is a well thought out concept that caught on so quickly that few people remember who first thought about it. Truly the strategy of placing a metal shielding on the most used and therefore fragile part of the door is so practical, that people seldom stop and think who the first was.
Philosophies aside, a kick plate is a tool almost as simple and useful as a wheel or a lever. It keeps a door safe and ensures that the users can use the door every whichever way they deem practical and most time saving.
For all those people who think that kicking doors is uncivil, I would like to try on a thought. Suppose you are giving your family a surprise treats and having prepared it all in the kitchen, want to make a grand opening by taking it all in a single scoop. Now suppose both your hands are full of the tasty morsels and goodies, what will you use to open the door?
We will all agree that most of the people who kick open doors do so only because of the sake of practicality and not incivility. So it is a moot point agonizing upon how the door would be hurting after continued kicking and take measures to ensure that irrespective of the kicking, the door retains its cosmetic as well as structural integrity.
A kick plate is a simple name for a simple add-on, a solid sheet of metal, preferable brass or aluminum and often other metals for the sake of antiquity is screwed or stuck on the lower portion of the door. .
This simple sheet of metal not only means that the door has become a lot more durable, but if you add in matching doorknobs and locks, the simple sheet of metal can really redefine the look the simple door gives to your house.
For all those considering installing the kick plate, a simple word of advice; make sure that if your door is wooden, you get screw-able door kick plates, make your choice likewise if your door is metal.
